A few more of my favorites.
First grade, 2013-14

Here are a whole bunch of artworks that I love. And all of these happen to be created by first grade artists. This is one creative crew!

95% of the art show is up and it is very exciting - only to be a fly on the wall on Monday morning when the students arrive. Please come check it out before May 8th. You’ll be glad you did!

Get ready for a bombardment of images! I am passing out all the work that we’ve made this year so students can choose their favorite work for the end-of-the-year art show. So I’m snapping photos left and right of some of my favorite works from the year.

Here is Carl’s Georgia O’Keeffe-inspired flower painting. He referenced a zinnia in a vase on his table, but then of course channeled Ms. O’Keeffe and added his own creative decisions as well. I just love the composition and use of tints and shades of the same colors.

These are from our first grade lesson on architecture. If you look closely, you’ll find arches and keystones, onion domes, balconies, widow’s walks, gargoyles, and many other fun architectural elements. They are wonderfully creative. I just wish they we could actually build them.

Fifth grade students were instructed to create ceramic busts that convey an emotion. I’m blown away by their results.

This painting sent me flying across the room when I saw a big blob of black paint heading its way while it was resting on the drying rack. A drop landed on it, but it didn’t ruffle Ashleigh. She cleverly disguised it in such a way that I don’t even remember where the blob fell. It’s a beauty, for sure, and includes six of our basic human emotions. I love its straightforwardness and how she used the space, not to mention the spectacular use of color.

5th grade art club studied two-point perspective and created their own fantasy tree houses.

This rain barrel was designed by Cassius in the 5th grade and painted by the 5th grade art club students. It will be auctioned off on May 16 by Keep Athens Clarke County Beautiful. I am super proud of their hard work and Cassius’ awesome design.

I just can’t get enough of these - they are so beautiful. 4th grade students started out making a collograph of a landscape using an assortment of textured materials. They made a print of their collograph using dark brown acrylic paint - that was the day that I had to say, “Trust me.” Then they painted over the dry prints with brilliant watercolors, each making their own unique colors. I think that they are stunning.
