Chase Street art display at the CCSD Youth Art Month show at the Lamar Dodd School of Art.  I am so proud of the work created by Chase Street artists. The opening reception is Sunday, March 2, and the work will be up throughout the month of March. Go see it!

Wow! What can I say? This collaborative drawing was created by one truly extraordinary young artist. Kiran graduated from Chase Street last year, but his legacy lives on. During his time at Chase, he was an incredible inspiration to everyone that he encountered. This drawing now lives in the art room and can continue to inspire art students for years to come.

My third grade students really put a lot of work into these Tar Beach inspired sewing pieces (description below) - I could tell that the content had a lot of meaning for them, therefore they took great care in executing their work. I had to post a few more.

After reading Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold, my third grade students considered what it would be like if they could fly, just like Cassie, the main character in the book. In Tar Beach, Cassie imagines that she can fly and that whatever she flies over, she will own. The story takes place in Brooklyn, pre-Civil Rights, so Cassie flies over the Union building to help ensure that her father will always have steady work. I asked my students to consider life today; what could they fly over and own that would help either their own family, our community or our world? They sewed these beautiful wall hangings to represent their wishes for improving our world, near or far.

There is so much good going on in these prints by my fifth grade students - their compositions are amazing, their line quality is very sophisticated, there is texture, contrast, energy. They are strong and memorable images.

Grady earned Artist of the Week for this cute painting of a snowy owl. I love his use of repetition, the limited colors, the detail and the adorable expression on the owl’s face.

I am so proud of the growth of each student in my fall drawing club. These self-portraits were drawn on the first and last day of a semester-long Friday morning class. They all learned to tap into their right brain by looking closely at individual lines and shapes instead of relying on the use of symbols. Way to go - I think that all of you are amazing!
