Here are a few of the completed busts. Aren’t they incredible? I’ll post more photos very soon!

We’ve completed the first step of finishing our clay busts - adding a sienna stain. Our next step will be to paint in details with acrylic paints. Too bad we have to wait a whole week.

Jessica breathed new life into the world with this one - creating very memorable characters. I encouraged her to name them all and to start letting them appear in her future artworks.

The Georgia Performance Standard for this assignment was for students to recognize that lines can show rhythm and movement. I’d say Pierce has a strong understanding of that concept! What a beautiful sky - don’t you wish that you could lay on a blanket on top of one of her mountains?

Soren channeled his inner van Gogh and created this beautiful painting, titled Cross Stars. I love his expressive brushstrokes, his rich, moody colors and the dynamic composition.

I loaded these up on Friday afternoon and I’m so excited about them that I can hardly stand it. They are incredible! - extremely well made, and full of texture, personality and emotion. We’ll be putting on a black base color then painting them with acrylics over the next two weeks.

Amira’s painting of her dance class is so charming - I love the sincerity in the face of the dancer in the foreground, the balance of and spatial depth created in the composition, and the gorgeous application of paint to create the wooden dance floor.

Doesn’t this butterfly make you happy? It’s full of pattern, texture, and lots of personality.

Using Georgia O’Keeffe as inspiration, second grade students painted flowers from direct observation. Carolina painted all three flowers that were in front of her - a sunflower, a zinnia, and a black-eyed susan, skillfully filling the space of her art composition. Her personalized background and excellent color choices make this painting really sing.

Alexander Calder? Nope, this wonderful wire fisherman was made by Roan in the 4th grade. Don’t you love how he submerged his feet under paper?

I love Caylon’s painting titled My Game - it’s so carefully rendered and his color choices are right on, especially the beautiful hints of purple and blue coming through on the floor, against all that orange.

First grade students were prompted to make a place using papers that they had beautifully printed with different textures. Grace chose to make space - how clever!
