A Hand-made Holiday, 2nd Grade
There are fascinating and incredible artworks being created in the art room at Chase Street Elementary every day. This is a blog to showcase a handful of the pieces that I just can't keep to myself. I hope that you will enjoy seeing the work of some extraordinary young artists.

5th grade Drawing Club students painted these two 8 x 12’ panels for our holiday musical, “A Pirate Christmas.” I asked for ‘painterly’ and this is what they came up with. I think the brushstrokes in both of these panels demonstrate that these students are well on their way to becoming very exciting painters!

The Georgia Performance Standard for this assignment was for students to recognize that lines can show rhythm and movement. I’d say Pierce has a strong understanding of that concept! What a beautiful sky - don’t you wish that you could lay on a blanket on top of one of her mountains?

I loaded these up on Friday afternoon and I’m so excited about them that I can hardly stand it. They are incredible! - extremely well made, and full of texture, personality and emotion. We’ll be putting on a black base color then painting them with acrylics over the next two weeks.

Using Georgia O’Keeffe as inspiration, second grade students painted flowers from direct observation. Carolina painted all three flowers that were in front of her - a sunflower, a zinnia, and a black-eyed susan, skillfully filling the space of her art composition. Her personalized background and excellent color choices make this painting really sing.
